Fantastic Mr. Fox is based on the much loved Roald Dahl children’s book of the same name. The plot centres on Mr. Fox, and how his seemingly perfect life of writing for a newspaper is turned upside down when his nephew, Kristofferson, comes to stay. Kristofferson encourages Mr. Fox to return to his old ways of stealing chickens from the neighbouring farm for the Fox family to enjoy. The victims of his greed (the three farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean) try to get their revenge and uproot Mr. Fox’s home and kill him.
The tale goes on to follow the adventures of Fox and his friends, who plot together in order to outwit the humans and fight for the home that is rightfully theirs. The characters all bring their own unique talent to the operation, such as Rabbit who is fast, and Mole who can see in the dark. Mr. Fox doesn’t lose his own criminal streak, as he encourages the animals to don their balaclavas and make a secret tunnel network, so they can later surface and cause chaos on the streets.
This is not your usual animated film, as the characters here are not computer generated; rather, they are hand crafted, which gives the film a certain originality and charm. Featuring a star-studded cast including George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Bill Murray, this film is a must-see.
