The Men Who Stare at Goats

"No goats. No glory."

Based on the bestseller by Jon Ronson, comedy ensues when the U.S. government try to harness the supernatural power of the paranormal for military purposes.

Journalist Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is on the look-out for his next big story whilst covering the Iraq war when he encounters Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), a contractor with an unusual past: he claims to have been a psychic spy in the New Earth army. Through flashbacks we soon learn that in the 1980s, Cassady was mentored by Bill Django (Jeff Bridges), a Vietnam veteran-turned-hippie who (somehow) convinced the US army to allow him to train a group of new age “warrior monks” with the ability to read enemy minds, walk through solid walls and even kill a goat by staring at it. Back in the present day, Cassady attempts to find his missing mentor while Bob decides on a whim to tag along for the ride. However, things become tense when they soon find themselves embroiled in a psychic grudge match between Django’s “warrior monks” and an ex-pupil’s militia of super soldiers.

With a stellar cast including Kevin Spacey as the uptight and prim Larry Hooper, this satirical dark comedy explores and exposes some of the wildly unorthodox tactics employed by the US army in the War on Terror. (Note: No goats were stared at in the making of this film)
