From the director of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow comes this epic disaster movie, showing the end of the world as you’ve never seen it before.
The U.S. government is warned of a series of natural disasters forecast for the year 2012. Plans are implemented to build gigantic ships in the Himalayas and to save 400,000 selected individuals - and there are additional places available for those rich enough to buy themselves one for 1 billion Euros. Jackson Curtis (Cusack) is a writer who is separated from his wife; he takes their two children on a camping trip in Yellowstone National Park. There he meets Charlie (Woody Harrelson), a conspiracy theorist and hermit, who lives in the park and hosts a local radio show. He warns Jackson of the disasters about to unfold and gives him the location where he believes a Giant Spaceship project is being carried out. This is, in fact, the location of the giant ships.
Heeding this warning, on his return home Jackson rents a plane, planning to rescue his family. As massive earthquakes kill millions worldwide, Jackson retrieves those dear to him and flies off in search of the ships. But in disaster movies, saving your family can never be that simple...
