Where The Wild Things Are is based on the classic children’s book by Maurice Sendak, and is the third film from visionary, Oscar-nominated director Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation). It is a bizarre and magical adventure, which offers a truly unique and exciting movie experience.
When Max, a young boy, feels alone and misunderstood at home, he creates a dark and mysterious land inhabited by strange and bizarre creatures known as the Wild Things. The creatures make Max their king, and after a glorious ‘wild rumpus,’ he promises to make a land where everyone will be happy. However, Max finds his plan increasingly difficult, and struggles with the realities and responsibilities of his rule, as well as struggling in his relationships with his imaginary companions.
The film features truly spectacular visuals and superbly created live-action Wild Things, designed to look like actual living and breathing animals in a stunning scenic landscape where anything can happen. It’s a joyous celebration of childhood and growing up, with all the feverish excitement of the childish imagination and the wonders of innocence, but also the losses and struggles of maturity and growing up. Expect a unique, fast-paced, dark and magical fairytale quite unlike any other film you have ever seen.
